Configure Network for SDWAN

Objective

This document provides instructions on how to perform configuration for inside and outside Volterra networks for Software-Defined Wide-Area Network (SD-WAN). To know more about Volterra networking concepts, see Networking.

Using the instructions provided in this document, you can configure virtual networks and network interfaces for inside and outside networks.

Prerequisites

Configuration

Configuring networks for SD-WAN requires you to create inside and outside virtual networks, configuring network interfaces for them, and associating the networks to fleet of sites.

Configuration Sequence

The following table presents the sequence of activities in enabling the TSA detection:

Activity Description
Create Virtual Networks Create inside and outside virtual networks.
Create Network Interfaces Create the default and non-default interfaces .
Add Network Interfaces to Fleet Add the created network interfaces to fleet.

Create Virtual Networks

Perform the following to create inside and outside virtual networks for the SD-WAN.

Step 1: Log into the VoltConsole and create inside virtual network.
  • In the system namespace, select Manage from the configuration menu and Networking from the options. Select Virtual Networks and click Add virtual network.
  • Set a name for your network and select Site Local Inside Network for the Network Type field.

Note: Optionally, you can configure subnets and static routes using the Add subnet and Add static route options.

  • Click Add virtual network to complete creating inside virtual network.

Step 2: Create outside virtual network.
  • In the system namespace, select Manage from the configuration menu and Networking from the options. Select Virtual Networks and click Add virtual network.
  • Set a name for your network and select Site Local Network for the Network Type field.

Note: Optionally, you can configure subnets and static routes using the Add subnet and Add static route options.

  • Click Add virtual network to complete creating inside virtual network.

Create Network Interfaces

In case of SD-WAN, it is required that you create interfaces for your networks.

Perform the following to create the default and non-default interfaces.

Step 1: Log into the VoltConsole and create inside the non-default network interface.
  • In the system namespace, select Manage from the configuration menu and Networking from the options. Select Network Interfaces and click Add network interface.
  • Set a name for your network and select Ethernet for the Type field.
  • Enter a name in the Device Name field.
  • Click Select virtual network and select the outside network (of type Site Local Network) you created in the previous chapter. Click Select virtual network to apply the network to the interface configuration.
  • Select Enable and Disable DHCP Server for the Enable DHCP Client and Enable DHCP Server fields respectively.

  • Click Add network interface to complete creating the non-default network interface.

Note: Repeat the above steps to create multiple interfaces for your SDWAN.

Step 2: Create default network interface.
  • Select Disable and Disable DHCP Server for the Enable DHCP Client and Enable DHCP Server fields respectively.

  • Enter a priority for the Priority field. This priority must be higher than that of the non-default network interface.

  • Click Add network interface to complete creating the non-default network interface.

Add Network Interfaces to Fleet

Creating an SD-WAN with all of your devices require you to add the created network devices to the fleet of your sites.

Step 1: Log into the VoltConsole and add inside network device to the fleet.
  • In the system namespace, select Manage from the configuration menu and select Fleets under Site Management from the options.
  • Navigate to your fleet from the displayed list of fleets and select ... -> Edit to open your fleet configuration edit form.
  • In the Devices section, click Add device and add the default network device as per the following guidelines:

    • Enter Device Name as the name of the non-default interface created in the previous chapter.
    • Enter Owner VER for the Device Owner field.
    • Select Networking Device for the Device Instance field.
    • Click Select Interface and select the non-default interface created in the previous chapter.
    • Select Regular Interface for the Use field.
    • Click Add device to apply the device to the fleet.

Step 2: Add outside network device to the fleet.
  • Click Add device one more time and add the default network device as per the following guidelines:

    • Enter Device Name as the name of the default interface created in the previous chapter.
    • Enter Owner VER for the Device Owner field.
    • Select Networking Device for the Device Instance field.
    • Click Select Interface and select the non-default interface created in the previous chapter.
    • Select Outside Interface for the Use field.
    • Click Add device to apply the device to the fleet.
