Monitor your Site Networking

Objective

This document provides instructions on how to monitor your site networking in VoltConsole. To learn more about site and how Volterra provides monitoring support, see Volterra Site and Monitoring.

Using the instructions provided in this document, you can look at an overview of the networking for your tennant and get details for any or all of the tunnels and interfaces used.

Prerequisites

  • VES account

Note: If you do not have an account, see Create a VES Account.

  • One or more cloud or edge locations with Volterra Site

Note: Install the Volterra node or cluster image in your cloud or edge location. See Create a Site for more information.

Activities of Monitoring

In the System namespace under Sites, select Site Networking. This page defaults to the Dashboard, which provides an overview of key networking metrics. You can also view your specifics for you tunnels and interfaces by selecting those tabs respectively.

Dashboard

The Filewall dashboard shows an aggregation of all firewall activity related to all your apps running on all your sites. Various information is presented in different sections withing the dashboard.

Dashboard Filters

The dashboard contents are dependent on the settings in the right-justified, top bar of options.

  • Click the Refresh button next to the time drop-downs to update the contents of the dashboard manually.
Status

The Status section shows counts for various items of interest for your site networking.

  • Sites shows the total number of sites in your tenant.
  • Alerting Sites shows the total number of sites reporting an issue. You can see a list of all alerts and their associated sites by going to Notifications/Alerts from the options pane.
  • Tunnels shows the total number of Tunnels used in your tenant.
  • Tunnel Alerts shows how many tunnels have active alerts where the tunnel interface is down. Click on the Tunnel Alerts title to see these specific alerts.
  • The Interfaces Down, Data Plane Down, and Control Plane Down columns show their respective quantity of those types of interface problems. Click any the title to see the a list of those specific interface problems in the Interfaces tab.
  • Tunnel Health < 70 shows how many tunnels are have problems with reduced health. Click the title to see those specific tunnels experiencing reduced health in the Tunnels tab.
Top 10 Sites

The next row of data sections shows the top ten sites within your tennant sorted by data sent and data received respectively.

Top 10 Tunnels

The next row of data sections shows the top ten tunnels sorted by latency, drop rate, and througput, respectively.

  • Click on a section title to see more details in the Tunnels tab.
  • Click on a tunnel listed in the by Latency section to see latency specifics for the tunnel in System Metrics.
  • Click on a tunnel listing in the by Drop Rate or by Throughput section to see drop rate or throughput specifics for the tunnel in System Metrics.

For more information on System Metrics see Inspect Site System Metrics under Explore a Site.
